The UP Writers Club of the University of the Philippines-Diliman starts off its 86th year through a week-long series of activities inside the campus:
Feb. 12, 2013 – Lecture Series, CAL 201
Feb. 12-15, 2013 – Book Sale, CAL Basement
Feb. 14, 2013 – Live Writing Session at the “Roots: Music and Art Festival” (UP Fair 2013), UP Sunken Garden
Since inception in 1927, the literary organization has never ceased to produce Philippine literary giants and society movers. The roster of acclaimed alumni include National Artists for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, Edith Tiempo, F. Sionil Jose, NVM Gonzales, Jose Garcia Villa, Nick Joaquin and canonical fictionist Manuel Arguilla.
The organization holds regular writing workshops, literary readings, the annual UP Writers Night, and other significant events in cooperation mostly with the UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW), Unyon ng Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) and the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCAA). It is open to both writers in English and Filipino.
