Women artists from Germany, Sweden, Australia, Denmark and Manila with a post-feminist edge are featured in an exhibition at the Ateneo Art Gallery curated by Lian Ladia from Feb. 16 – April 20. Opening reception is on Saturday, Feb. 16, 4 pm with a performance by Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen. The opening is preceded at 2 pm by ArtSpeak with Maria Cruz.

The exhibition, YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT, features contemporary female artists working with video, photography, painting and new media who create process-oriented works that often involve collaborations, social interaction and the inclusion of real situations in their pieces. Their artworks reveal certain biographies that become a preface to social change as the personal becomes political.

The artists in the show, Maria Cruz, Lizza May David, Tracey Moffatt, Claudia Del Fierro, Annika Eriksson, Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen and Kiri Dalena, all have international careers that see them exhibiting around the US, Europe and Asia. Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Annika Eriksson and Claudia del Fierro have been part of some of the most prestigious international art exhibitions; Rasmussen was part of the Danish Pavillion at the 2011 Venice Biennale, Ericksson was in the 2005 Venice Biennale and del Fierro was included in the 9th Havana Biennale in Cuba and the 4th Mercosul Biennial in Brazil. Tracey Moffatt has been honored with a retrospective of her film and videos in MOMA New York. Maria Cruz has received residencies with PS1 New York, an Asialink Residency and the Karl Hoffer Gesselschaft International Studio in Berlin.Kiri Dalena has received both the Ateneo Art Awards and the CCP 13 Artists awards and her video work was one of the select pieces to be included in the prestigious Short Film Festival in Oberhausen, Germany. Lizza May David has been shown widely in Europe and the Philippines including the Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin, Sidewalkcinema, Vienna, Space Gallery, Bratislava and Lothringer13, Munich.

As part of the YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT exhibition program the artists were invited to create new works born out of their month-long art residencies in the Philippines hosted by the Ateneo Art Gallery, Green Papaya Art Projects, 98B COLLABoratory and Light and Space Contemporary. The residencies give the artists the opportunity to deepen their engagement with the country by exposing them to the day to day culture of the Philippines. From their experiences, they have developed the pieces that they will exhibit at the Ateneo Art Gallery.

A major component of the exhibition program is ArtSpeak, talks given by the exhibiting artists about their practice and their works in the show.
