UST Publishing House announces the launching of ‘Silver Fish, Hook of Moon’, a bilingual poetry collection by Neal Imperial, on Feb. 23, 2013 (Saturday), 5:30 pm, at the Primero Casa Filipino Restaurant and Bar at 26 Sct. Torrillo cor. Sct. Fernandez, Sacred Heart, Quezon City.
Imperial, an alumnus of Ateneo de Manila University, former General Consul of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and currently the executive director of the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of Middle East and African Affairs, intersperses his debut collection with poems both in English and Filipino dealing with various subjects, ranging from social and political issues, to personal dealings with the trappings of love and sensual desire.
As poet and art critic Emmanuel Torres remarks in his introduction to the book, “he avoids floridity and effusiveness [and] relies more on irony, conciseness, understatement, and ironic juxtaposition,” in order to craft inspired poetry that is straightforward, sometimes even brutal, but undoubtedly new, unique, and heralds the arrival of another notable poet in the Philippine literary scene.
