Miclat-Janssen to teach ‘The Actor’s Voice’

pr_actor's voiceTheater Actors Guild (TAG), in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), presents: Banaue Miclat-Janssen’s ‘The Actor’s Voice’, a workshop for actors with professional acting experience of at least two years. Sessions start on March 4, 2013, 4-7 pm at the Spotlight Artists Centre, 122 Jupiter St., Bel-Air Village, Makati City. Schedule is every Monday until April 15, 2013. The recital will take place on April 20, 2013, 7-10 pm at Opera Haus, 3657 Bautista St., Makati City.

The workshop, conducted over six weeks, is designed to heighten the actor’s awareness of the connection between voice, the body, emotions, and the spoken word. It will be devoted to understanding the anatomy and physiology of the vocal instrument; learning a warm-up that includes breath support, tension release and vocal range expansion; and performance with physical awareness, ease and presence to eliminate blocks and tensions in the body and emotions.

Banaue Miclat-Janssen holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. She had vocal training under CUNY’s Judylee Vivier, Robert A. Carpenter and Evelyn Mandac and master classes under F. Murray Abraham, Ruth Maleczech, Agnieszka Holland, Andrew Wade (RSC), Dee Cannon (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts), and Vernon Morris (Shakespeare). She currently teaches at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Workshop fee is Php 3,000 for TAG Members and Php 6,000 for non-TAG enrollees. To register, or for more details, contact Therese Carlos at (0917) 911-8880.
