From April to May 2013, new graduates and jobseekers can hone their writing skills in two summer workshops, one for Copywriting and the other for “Basic Writing for Business and Pleasure.” The workshops will be conducted by Ime Morales, longtime advertising copywriter, and Ramil Digal Gulle, author and former Palanca Awards juror, respectively.
Copywriting will cover basic advertising copywriting for print, outdoor and digital media. “Aside from writing techniques, it will also include practical tips on coming up with advertising concepts and strategies, as well as launching a freelance copywriting career in the Philippines,” says Morales, who is also the founder of the Freelance Writers’ Guild of the Philippines.
At the end of the course, she adds, the participants will hopefully be able to “come up with ideas and concepts for effective copy, write compelling advertising copy that works, and maybe even start a freelance copywriting career.”
Gulle’s course, meanwhile, will cover writing in both English and Filipino. From creating an outline to writing scripts for AVPs, his course will provide practical advice and application on effective written communication.
“We’ll also tackle grammar, spelling, and syntax—a crash course, if you will,” he says, explaining that one of the most common complaints of employers and managers these days is the dismal communications skill level of new hires.
The workshops will start on April 17, 2013 every Wednesday and Friday until May 24. These are open to participants ages 17 and above. Writing for Business and Pleasure will be from 1:00-2:30 p.m., and Copywriting from 2:30-4 p.m. Rates are Php 4,500 for each workshop (12 sessions each). This fee covers materials and handouts.
The workshops will be held at the Center for Blended Learning Literacy Center at 56 Lantana corner New York Streets, Barangay Immaculate Concepcion, Cubao, Quezon City. Early bird and bulk/corporate discounts are available.
