The Philippine chapter of Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) invites children’s & young adult literature writers to the Children’s Lit Booktalk/Meet-the-Author/Work-in-Progress Critique of Chris Cheng. The session is scheduled on June 1, 2013, 9 am-2 pm at Pancake House, Harbor Square beside the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Chris Cheng is the Regional Advisor Emeritus for SCBWI Australia and New Zealand, one of the biggest international chapters of the Los Angeles based Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI). He is also co-chair of the international Advisory Board for the SCBWI and is on the board for the Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC).
Program
9-10 am – Booktalk: Roundtable booktalk on children’s and YA books
10-11 am – Meet the Author Chris Cheng: Chris will talk about his career as a children’s author and his published work, what it takes to get published and keep getting published as a children’s author in Australia, and tips on how to get published internationally. He will also discuss his work in digital publishing.
11-12 nn – Critiques: Chris will comment on selected published books of attendees and/or their work in progress.
12 nn – Brunch
1-2 pm – Q&A: Chris will answer attendees’ questions on children’s book writing and publishing.
Registration
Limited slots available, first come first served. Prepaid registration required, walk in participants are not allowed. Registration will close when all slots are filled. The fee is P500 for SCBWI members, P600 for nonmembers. This will cover the cost of brunch, and is nonrefundable but transferrable. Open to SCBWI members and anyone over 18 years of age who is a published or aspiring children’s or young adult writer or illustrator of children’s literature.
