The third edition of the Umpilan, a monthly forum on Philippine regional writing, featured Waray literature last May 17, 2013 at the Natividad Galang Fajardo (NGF) Conference Room, Horacio de la Costa Hall, Ateneo de Manila University.
Prof. Duke Bagulaya of the University of the Philippines Diliman and Commissioner Jerry Gracio of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino discussed the development and trajectories of literatures in their region with premier poet in Filipino, Prof. Romulo P. Baquiran Jr. of UP Diliman, moderating the panel.
The event was organized by the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL, or Writers Union of the Philippines), in partnership with the Kagawaran ng Filipino and the Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and Practices of the Ateneo de Manila University.
The next edition of the Umpilan in June will feature Philippine literature in Chinese and by Chinese-Filipinos.
