Tanghalang Ateneo to hold auditions for Sophocles’ tragedies

Tanghalang Ateneo will be holding open auditions for the last production of its 35th Season: Reimagining the Greeks.

The season finale in February 2014 fuses two of Sophocles’ tragedies and given the name, Breakaway Antigone, a play with songs. The new play finds the young Antigone shamed at the family’s dishonor brought about by his father Oedipus’ banishment from Thebes. She gets a chance to redeem his father’s honor when she defies the edict of King Creon, his uncle, by giving his brothers a proper burial.

Breakaway Antigone Open Auds

November 12 (Tuesday) and 13 (Wednesday), 6:00-9:00 PM

Antigone, a young girl; her uncle Creon; her sister Ismene; her suitor Haemon; her brothers Polinekes and Eteokles; her parents Oedipus and Jocasta; Tiresias, a blind seer; a Chorus of Thebans and Soldiers.

(1) Read a passage with a partner
(2) Sing a pop or rock song
(3) Do a dance or movement routine from 30 seconds to a minute
