NBDB invites you to World Book and Copyright Day

On April 23rd of every year, the National Book Development Board (NBDB), the government agency mandated to support and develop the Philippine book publishing industry, celebrates World Book and Copyright Day (WBCD). This worldwide celebration, which promotes reading, publishing, and copyright awareness, has been administered by UNESCO for 18 years.

In the previous years, the NBDB has had a literary food walk, seminars, book fairs, and a motorcade. This year, the agency is planning a multimedia industry exhibit, writers’ seminars and forums, a book swap, and a variety show at the Activity Center in Bonifacio High Street, Taguig. The opening ceremony in the morning, gathering industry heads, will be spearheaded by NBDB Chair Flor Marie Sta. Romana-Cruz, who will deliver a State of the Book Industry Address. Folk singer and musician Bayang Barrios will present a special number during the ceremony. .

Students, book lovers, and artists will gather for a variety show in the late afternoon. Among the performing artists are UP Guitar Trio, Sipat Lawin Ensemble, slam poets from Speak! Philippines, the Balagstars Balagtasan group from Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo (LIRA), and book author and comedian RJ Ledesma. There will be a multimedia exhibit and showcase featuring several local publishers and a book swap sponsored by ReaderCon at the Bonifacio High Street Walkway. Workshops and seminars on topics from Shakespeare to comic books will be held at Fully Booked.
