Ateneo ENTABLADO opens 32nd season with a twin bill

Ateneo ENTABLADO (ENterteynment para sa TAo, BAyan, LAnsangan, at DiyOs) transitions from a personal to a communal theme on its 32nd season, Isang Dula, Isang Dulang, with a summer production featuring the plays Pobreng Alindanaw and Sino Ba Kayo? written by Dennis Teodosio and Julian Cruz Balmaceda, respectively, under the direction of Jerome Ignacio.

Pobreng Alindanaw highlights the desires of Beauty as a butterfly, and of Chubbs and Tiny as dragonflies to become something they are not, envying each other’s natural life. This play shows how society shapes one’s perspective before the true value of his innate characteristics. It also reflects how an individual strives to conquer his lifetime’s possibilities and limitations to attain happiness.

On the other hand, Sino Ba Kayo? trifles with the conflicts due to mistaken identities in Doña Marcela V De Pakaskas Sikuterat’s household. Set after World War II, this play punctuates the self-centeredness of the people which hinders them to properly communicate with others. It exhibits how seemingly communal problems are actually brought by sudden gush of emotions and careless actions of individuals.

Both plays seek to carry individualism to a level higher than the self but to others, encouraging to form a collective identity. They serve to build and strengthen communities that are willing to reach out to one another.
